Folk blues roots, and a sound that is as fresh as it is timeless, complex as it is minimalist, lush as it is raw, organic as richly composted soil and as real as you can get.
Money Killed Jonny questions money and status and the social intent of holding these as our most important values.
Driven by the diverse insightful songs of Steve Robinson your feet will move to the intoxicating rhythms while your mind adventures through love life and laughter, and the socio political questions and disasters of modern life.
you’ll find influences as varied as Fats Waller, Louie Armstrong, Lou Reed, Tom Waits, the Cruel Sea, Nick Cave, Dave Brubeck Quartet, Vince Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Zap Mama, Juju Orchestra, Monsieur Camembert, Buena Vista Social Club, Bill Withers, Lonnie Johnson, Django Reinhardt, film noir, underground black and white, B grade and Blacksploitation movies.
The name “Money Killed Jonny” comes from the well known saying “Money is the root of all evil”, where motivation to amass huge wealth and the drive to excess will kill us all in the end. The name “Jonny” is used as a title for “everyone” and although seeming male it was inspired by a woman of that name spelt with the no “h” and the double “n”.
